Abstract
The variable-speed asynchronous traction motor used on electric locomotive is investigated in this paper. Based on the geometrical dimensions and the finite element method, the field circuit coupled model of a traction motor is presented; the electromagnetic field and the performance of a traction motor operating on different state are calculated. The result shows the influence of the nonlinear phenomena, such as slot effect, saturation, skin effect, on the distribution of the electromagnetic field. All the studies are effective and much helpful for the optimal design of the asynchronous traction motor for variable speed drive.
