Abstract
This paper analysis the principle of two phases excitation and presents a method to control the speed of switched reluctance motor (SRM) which is driven by a three-phase bridge inverter. Until recently, SRMs are mainly driven by a unipolar asymmetric bridge inverter which has limited its wide applications because of its special structure which has increased the drive cost. However, if a bridge inverter is used in driving SRM, it will save drive cost for three-phase bridge inverter has been widely applied in IM, BLDC drivers. This paper extends phase-shifter control method under asymmetric bridge inverter to three-phase bridge inverter and proposes a novel method to operate SRM based on three-phase bridge inverter. Furthermore, a comparison between two phases excitation and conventional method is carried on to show the differences between phase current and electromagnetic torque. Finally simulation results are presented to verify the proposed control method.
