  • Abstract
    The causes of over-voltage about NPC three-level medium voltage motor drives are analyzed. To avoiding any kind of over-voltage about motor drives, a method of using ZnO-arrester to be the device of over-voltage protection on NPC three-level medium voltage motor drives is proposed in this paper. The detailed calculation of how to choose ZnO-arrester is given. Comparing the voltage waves before adding the ZnO-arrester and after adding the ZnO-arrester in proper locations by simulating on Matlab Simulink, the result shows that the ZnO-arrester can protect motor drives to over-voltage very well. It is proved that the method of using ZnO-arrester to be the device of over-voltage protection on NPC three-level medium voltage motor drives is valid and the choosing calculation of ZnO-arrester is correct.
