Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present an accurate model for a power turbine generator (PTG) system in dynamic characteristics. The PTG system is a waste heat recovery type generation system making use of exhaust gas from the main shipboard diesel engines. However, with the PTG systems, the dynamic characteristics are not entirely clear. So, an accurate simulation model is clarified for the safe operating of the PTG system. The simulation results are verified with a prototype constructed on the basis of the simulation. As a result, in the transient response of the frequency, an overshooting of frequency is 108% in both simulated and measured. Furthermore, in the startup progress, so as to limit speed overshooting that is 0.81 p. u. in the simulated, 0.83 p. u. in the measured at 100% output from main diesel engine as the most severe condition. An error is less than 2%. This shows that the accuracy of the proposed model is five times as much as a standard one.
