Abstract
This paper presents the optimal barrier design in single-phase LSPM (line-start permanent magnet motor) considering the efficiency. The line-start permanent-magnet motor is a synchronous hybrid PM/reluctance motor that is being developed for applications including compressors of air conditioner that require a high-efficiency alternative to the induction motor. To consider nonlinear characteristics, the design process is comprised of FEM and analytical method. Barriers which can control all magnetic flux are designed by using FEM. On this occasion, we perform D.O.E (design of experiments) to reduce the analysis time. Finally, the performance of optimal model is compared with those of conventional induction motor.
