Abstract :
A method for calculating the performance of double-sided linear induction motor (DLIM) with short secondary is presented in this paper. The analytical solution of air gap flux density is firstly deduced from one-dimensional (1-D) electromagnetic field equations, then in the equivalent circuit of the motor, to take both longitudinal and transverse end effects into account, the correction coefficients to magnetizing reactance and secondary resistance are developed on the basis of the equivalence principle of which the complex power derived from the circuit are identical to that from the field. The main characteristics with and without the end effect are calculated using the proposed circuit. The starting performances from the circuit agree well with the results obtained from finite element analysis.
