Abstract :
The high temperature superconducting air-core transformer, which has a large magnetizing current, has been proposed as a possible type of future power transformer having a function as a shunt reactor. In this paper, based on the theoretical analysis of air-core transformerpsilas volt-ampere character, the performance of an designed air-core transformer in the model cable transmission system is analyzed. Magnetic field is calculated with a HTS single phase air-core transformer model for experiment. Short circuit test and load test are done with the experimental HTS air-core transformer. From the results of these investigations, it is confirmed that the HTS air-core transformer can function as a shunt reactor in addition to its principal function as a power transformer, and other merits of the HTS air-core transformer are clarified.
