Abstract :
This paper presents the study of the UWB (ultra wideband) transmission characteristics over household powerline in a very high frequency band, from 50 MHz to 800 MHz. The characteristics of a type of commonly used powerline, 2.5 mm flat twin earth cable is examined for its use in UWB communication in both software simulation and measurements. Transmission of a UWB pulse over powerline is modelled in Microwave Studio CSTTM, followed by experimental channel studies in frequency domain, transient response is also analysed. The emphases are on radiation, signal attenuation and dispersion of the powerline in high frequency range. All these indicate that high data rate transmission is possible over the power-line channel in 50 - 800 MHz.
