Abstract :
Extracting rural residential area from satellite images with multi-resolution is compared here. Firstly, the multiresolution images covering Xindu district of Chengdu city of China such as CBERS images acquired in March 2005, Spot images acquired in April 2005, and Quickbird images acquired in June 2003 are geometrically corrected and registered by a lot of ground control points. Secondly, the multi-resolution images are enhanced in order to enhance the rural residential area information. Thirdly, the samples of rural residential area and its background are acquired from the images, and analyzed to discover the knowledge for extracting rural residential area. The rural residential areas are respectively extracted from CBERS images, SPOT images and Quickbird images by using the knowledge. Finally, the rural residential areas extracted from CBERS images, SPOT images and Quickbird images are compared by overlay and statistics analysis in the same region.
