  • Abstract
This paper focuses on a detailed computation of foam/whitecap characteristics at L-band (1.4 GHz). The emphasis of our study is on the impact of so-called whitecap bubble plumes, which are the most abundant high-contrast oceanic objects at microwave frequencies. An advanced physics-based model is presented. The task is considered in connection with the retrieval of sea surface salinity using L-band microwave radiometry.
