Abstract
Due to the emerging utilization of HF band for power-line communication applications, the complete knowledge of the broadband powerline channel is required. This paper strives to deepen the understanding of broadband indoor powerline channel by focusing on the transmission characteristics of channel and its noise behavior through computer simulation. At first, the paper analyzes a multipath model which describes the transfer function of typical power line channels in frequency domain range from 0.5 MHz to 20 MHz. Then it discusses the noise models including an ingress noise model for simulating background noise and the Middleton´s Class A noise model for simulating impulsive noise. Last we calculate the channel capacity of two typical PLC channel under different environments. The result shows that the PLC channel has the huge potential to be used in high-speed data communication.
