Abstract :
Future wireless communication networks will be composed of multiple access technologies with a core IP network centred. The heterogeneous multi-radio scenario requires effective and efficient radio resource management (RRM) from a whole perspective that takes into account the overall amount of resources offered by all the available radio access technologies (RATs). Thus, the idea of cooperative radio resource management (Co-RRM) strategy in the tight coupling of UMTS and WLAN is proposed to achieve better user experiences and resource utilization. Separate RRM (S-RRM) and Co-RRM entity can combine to make a wiser decision. Functional model is also designed and implemented on NS-2 to validate this strategy as well.
