Abstract :
This paper discusses the problem of measuring specific acceleration parameters in the high G dynamic environments of ballistic system components such as gun tubes and projectiles. The discussion includes: (1) Characteristics of the acceleration environment. (2) Mechanical filtering techniques required to separate measurands from stress wave interference. (3) Sensor array technique required to discriminate vector components of the measurand. (4) Electronic and numerical filtering techniques and their dangers. (5) Calibration and sensor response requirements. Data example will be given illustrating the problems and solutions.
