Abstract :
This paper deals with the investigation of various advanced controls implementable by computers. The control algorithms involved were: set point tuning, disturbance tuning, adaptive tuning, feedforward, decoupling. Various combinations of these controls are implemented on a multivariable process, namely a heat exchanger. The computer simulation was performed for the investigation. The results suggested that the advanced process controls can further be improved if used on a selective manner based on operational condition. A supervisory computer algorithm can be used to direct the mode of control and tuning parameter values.
