            Abstract :
This paper outlines the current state of the art in raster graphics technology. Image creation, buffer memory writing, and display transformation to a color CRT monitor are discussed. Timing constraints when refreshing from the image buffer while at the same time writing to the buffer are identified, and a discussion of the limitations of the present technology is presented. Advanced architectures for raster graphics are outlined and one implementation of a virtual refresh buffer concept is identified. The paper concludes with a discussion of several potential applications of raster technology.
