Abstract :
In the field of optimization of continuous control, especially those involving reactor kinetics, deterministic systems such as linear programming often are inappropriate or difficult to develop. A technique called the "hyperplane search" which uses multivariable statistical analysis as its basis can be used. As a stable, robust and highly adaptive algorithm, the hyperplane\´s technique always improves or holds your profitability over time. This paper examines the mathematics behind the technique, discusses a recent process application and details the tuning and potential pitfalls. This technique was applied to a continuous flow hydrolysis reactor with good success. This paper is intended for process control engineers and operation\´s personnel. It presents an understanding of the concepts as well as the incentives.
