Abstract
This paper summarizes the follow-on analysis performed by the US Army Ballistic Research Laboratory in evaluating an armored vehicle fire control modification designed to enhance performance against maneuvering targets. The original work was presented at the 1986 American Control Conference in Seattle, Wa. and dealt with a redesign concept intended to convert a driven reticle fire control to one emulating a gun director type. The paper begins with a brief review of the generic features of the two types of fire control systems that were analyzed as well as the motivation for performing the work. Results and findings of the stationary firer/maneuvering target analyses are summarized next. The paper then focuses on the follow-on analysis that was performed to evaluate the impact that the proposed design modification would have on fire-on-the-move performance. The paper concludes with statistical and time history comparisons between the decoupled and conventional driven reticle fire control systems.
