Flexible Production Hard- and Software for a Multiproduct Batch Plant

This paper describes a multiproduct batch plant for production of pharmaceutical agents and especially the software structure that leads to easy recipe handling. Product recipes are entered and modified from a supervisory terminal by the production chemist. Several hundred recipes can be stored in the control system and downloaded to the the front end process controllers as required. All this is done without the assistance of engineering staff.
