Abstract
Bonded and embedded piezoceramic sensors and actuators can be used for active vibration control of flexible structures. Development of optimal control procedures require a consideration of design variables such as the size of the piezoceramic devices, types of devices, number of such devices, control gains, signal conditioning options, weights to be used on state and control, decentralization and placement of the transducers. In this paper the effect of the location or placement of the sensors and actuators and the question of centralization and decentralization has been discussed with reference to a selected flexible structure and selected piezoceramic sensors, actuators and a strain rate feedback.
