Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of estimating the transient response of feedback systems using approximated (rational) plants. Specifically, the plants of interest are the class of nonrational flexible mechanical systems. Explicit formulae are developed which provide computationally simple estimates for single-input/single-output feedback configuration. These estimates complement frequency domain robust control theories in that the control design can encompass both time and frequency domain specifications for such systems.
