Abstract
The characteristics of real-time control systems are reviewed, and the CCITT Specification and Description Language (SDL) is shown to be suitable for software design in some parts of these systems. At Bristol we are designing a computer architecture specifically for the implementation of this language. This architecture is briefly described here. An implementation through this route offers high performance, and assists system analysis both for logical correctness and performance requirements.
