Abstract
A class of algorithms has been developed for designing deterministic finite-state controllers for second-order, single-input, single-output linear discrete-time systems. The controllers are defined in terms of a target region in state space: the plant state is to be driven from a known initial region of state space to the target region and kept in that region. The algorithms design not only the controller itself, but a DAC and an ADC for interfacing the controller with the plant´s input and output, respectively. The algorithms have been implemented in FORTRAN to run on VAX computers under VMS. They have been used to successfully design controllers for DC motors, induction motors and aerospace systems.
