Abstract
An approach to controller design, based on system identification methods, is proposed and illustrated using an example. Controller parameters are estimated using a least squares method and specified models for the desired input-output behavior of the closed-loop system. The proposed controller design method provides a tradeoff between potentially conflicting objectives specified for command following, disturbance rejection and noise rejection. The controller order can also be determined using standard model order determination techniques.
