Abstract
In this paper the implications of controllers on the dynamic loads occuring in wind turbine sytems under full load operating conditions are investigated. Both fixed speed wind turbine systems and variable speed wind turbine systems are studied. The integrated dynamic models describing the various wind turbine configurations are implemented in DUWECS. For each wind turbine the controller is designed using the Optimal Control design techniques. The simulations clearly show that it it possible to reduce the loads for an optimal controlled variable speed wind turbine.
