Abstract :
It is commonly believed that fuzzy logic control (FLC) has excellent robust characteristics. In this paper, fuzzy logic-based roll controllers are designed to control wing-rock motion of a free-to-roll stinged delta wing. The dynamics of an aircraft is a complex function of the flight conditions. The free-to-roll stinged delta wing provides investigations of these variations as well as the exhibited highly nonlinear dynamics of limit cycle at high angle-of-attack. A rule-base FLC is first designed to suppress wing rock phenomenon. The goal to ultilize this type of FLC is to demonstrate the ability of FLC to capture qualitative control strategies and implement highly flexible control behaviors. Then a newly proposed data-base FLC design method is used to improve the performance characteristics to a level compatible with the performance of optimal linear controller locally while maintaining the high performance through the whole flight envelope.
