Abstract
To reduce manpower required and electrical energy consumption during capacity tests on stationary batteries for telecommunications systems, a new capacity testing technique has been developed. The test consists of two steps: a short time discharge to determine the minimum capacity cell in assembled batteries and a measurement of the cell´s capacity by using an automatic capacity tester. The new method and the conventional one were used in field and the results were compared with each other. As a result, large decrease in manpower required, electrical energy consumption, size and weight of capacity test equipment and measurement error was realized by using the new method.
