Abstract
It is clear from our paper, that both types of NiCad batteries can be successfully used as the power supply for cordless telephones and other similar portable telecommunications equipment. The decision as to the particular type chosen, can be summarised as follows: Where dimensions and overall specification are critical, NiCad mass plate button cells should be specified. However, if the application should demand a recharge time of 1 hour or less, then sintered cells must be specified. FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS are in hand to enhance the performance of button cells in terms of extended overcharge capabilities, optimisation of capacity and to produce thinner section cells, this will enable the design engineer to make the best use of the versatility of this type of cell.
