Abstract :
In wireless mesh networks (WMNs), to provide Internet connection, packets originating from mesh clients are relayed through multihops by the mesh routers (MRs) towards the Internet gateway (IGW). As MRs may belong to different entities, in the aim to provide sufficient Internet throughput to its clients or avoid traffic congestion, a selfish MR fully or partially drops the relay packets oriented towards the IGW. This non-cooperative behavior severely degrades WMNs performance. In this paper to solve this MRs selfishness behavior, we propose a MRs-placement based incentive routing with network coding (MINEC) between MRs of different ownership and IGW. Through analysis and extensive simulations, we show how our design can increase the network throughput in the presence of such selfish MRs and better ameliorates network performance compared to oblivious routing for WMNs (OBR) without any incentive.
