Abstract
A high performance electrical gearbox actuator has been designed and built using a coupled field-circuit model. The mathematical model is based on the two-dimensional finite element method (2D FEM) coupled together with a set of electro-mechanical differential equations. The parameters for the set of differential equations are calculated using the finite element model and are updated at each time step. Comparison of computed and experimental results verifies the accuracy of the model. The proposed model has been used to optimise the design of the actuator control strategy.
