Abstract
Differentiated services (DiffServ) scheme is good idea to support real-time applications in IP based networks. However, it fails to give the actual way for end user applications to request specific QoS as there is no connection admission control. It is difficulties to assure end-to end QoS in DiffServ networks. In order to overcome the limit of the DiffServ scheme, an approach to perform connection admission control for differentiated services domain is proposed in this paper. The proposed approach is fully distributed and scalable, as admission control decisions are taken at the edge routers, and no coordination between core routers is required. Core routers are stateless and remain oblivious to individual flows. This approach adds to DiffServ a mechanism of effective resource reservation and improves performance of QoS provision in IP networks.
