  • Abstract
    This paper studies the packing optimization about how to place the circular and weighted objects in a circular container, while the system should be in good balance and the container should be as small as possible. The problem-solving strategy can be applied to place some devices or instruments in the satellite. We first provide an orderly positioning technique, which placing the circles one by one in a given order and can give out a compact layout. Because different packing orders can lead to layouts in different quality, we then develop a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to search for the optimal order and then the optimal layout. At last, some numerical experiments are carried and the PSO algorithm is compared with a existing novel genetic algorithm. The results show that the PSO algorithm can compete with the genetic algorithm.
