Abstract :
A Five-level cascaded multilevel motor driver with battery charge management has been proposed. The cascade multilevel converter uses two levels of dc voltage sources which is available from batteries for electrical vehicle. Through proper control of the multilevel converter, production of AC waveforms can be achieved from small voltage of battery banks. A simple charging method is presented by which only one H-bridge power cell is connected with the battery charger while another power cell is charged through internal circuit loop. Battery charging equalization can be achieved by control of the duty ratio of power switches in power cell one. Equivalent circuits for different operating modes are illustrated and studied. Simulation has been carried out to validate the feasibility of the proposed approach.
