Abstract :
This paper describes realistic game controllers with motion sensors and wireless communication modules. We use a three axis accelerometer to recognize motions of the gamer and 2.4 GHz wireless modules to enhance the mobility of the system. With designed PCB-boards which use a 3V lithium-ion battery as power source, we implemented five sensor boards. We also designed USB dongle to relay data from sensor boards to game application in personal computers (PCs). The accelerometer can measure the dynamic acceleration of a gravity resulting from the motion of the gamer. The three axis(X, Y and Z) acceleration, velocity, and distance travelled were analyzed to determine the magnitude and direction of the motion of gamers. Fast response time is an important factor to make the game more realistic. In this study, we achieve transmission rate of 30 Hz between the controllers and the PCs with five sensor boards connected simultaneously.
