Abstract :
To calculate turbulent movement and combustion in internal combustion (IC) engines the three dimensional software (KIVA-3V code) is analyzed. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become an established tool for the design and understanding of practical combustion systems. Multidimensional models have proven their value in reducing the need for physical experimentation, the benefit of which has been a reduction in product development time and cost. All features and capabilities of the original KIVA-3 have been retained. The grid generator, K3PREP, has been expanded to support the generation of grids with valves, along with the shaping of valve ports and runners. Graphics output options have also been expanded and the new features are discussed. Since in a real diesel engine the wall temperature are not constant, but varied over the cycle, energy equation in standard KIVA-code is modified because of effect of wall heat. Since the shape of piston (4JB1) is not on the axis of symmetry, 360deg was modeled which corresponds x-offset 4 mm and y-offset 1 mm. Finally, schematic of the test bench configuration and engine specification are showed, cylinder pressures and the corresponding heat release rates with variation of injection timing are compared with experimental data. It gives the new theory and method about calculating turbulent movement and combustion exactly in IC engine.
