Abstract
This paper analyzed the spatial pattern of cultivated land conversion in the Coastal Area of Pearl River Estuary based on RS and GIS technology. The results showed that the cultivated land area reduced rapidly under the pressure of urban expansion, and it was the main period about the cultivated land to reduce from 1988 to 1995. Other types of land also were converted to the cultivated land, which waters and the forest land were the major types. On the east of the Coastal Area of Pearl River Estuary the cultivated land loss had experienced rapid change, and more than 70 percent of cultivated land was converted to construction sites.
