  • Abstract
Communication System is an EMI sensitive electronics that has a critical role in the combat vehicles. In particular the HF-VHF communication system is very much susceptible to EM radiations from rest of the electronics systems within the vehicle. Similarly if the transmitter is not well designed or not properly installed then, it can be a potential threat to rest of the electronics. Thus it establishes an excellent EMC problem. Type of equipment that has caused EMI problem are included in the study. This paper describes the various EMI problems encountered in VHF Communication system in brief. Both hardware and software solutions were found and are explained in brief. Finally an important aspect of lightning protection to the antenna is also described in brief. These studies have led to a series of developmental work in indigenising the control harness, RF coaxial filters for EMI mitigation and control of natural EMI threat arising due to Lightning effects etc. in the vehicle.
