Abstract :
The aim of this theoretical research paper is to bring out the critical aspects of parameters for validation requirements for hardening of a typical C4ISR facility against disruption and damage from electromagnetic pulses (NEMP) produced by nuclear blasts. The purpose of NEMP hardening system is to protect critical military/civil systems such as C4ISR facilities / C4I2 systems, Command and control centers of Air Defence and Communications hubs from the effects of intense electromagnetic effects caused as a result of a nuclear explosion. In the literature, a lot of written material is available on the effects of NEMP, properties of NEMP, effects of surface burst NEMP, effects of high altitude NEMP bursts, effects of NEMP on facility systems, grounding and shielding procedures. But testing and validation aspects are not defined properly. Data availability on validation procedure and parameters to be validated are very rare. In this paper an attempt is made to define the parameters quantitatively for validation of a NEMP hardened facility. Main purpose of this paper is to propose, standardize and quantify the parameters for hardness against the NEMP effects for validating a typical facility such as C4ISR.
