Abstract :
Surface waves are one of the main types of coherent noise in seismic surveys, and standard filtering methods, such as F-K filtering, are not always effective. In this paper, we describe a non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) based method for surface wave de-noising. The NSCT works like a "local F-K filter" and is implemented in time spatial domain. Compared to other surface wave filtering methods, the NSCT provides a platform for precise processing of the surface wave and can deal with aliasing data. Land seismic field data contaminated by high energy surface waves is used to test the effectiveness of this method. Preliminary results suggest that surface waves can be mostly attenuated by this method.
