Abstract :
Ontology Web Language (OWL) is an ontology description language for the semantic Web. It is known for its capabilities of representing knowledge and knowledge-based reasoning. OWL has been increasingly used for modeling the entities in pervasive computing environment. However, OWL gives no specific support for exclusive relations between properties owned by subjects, which bring inconvenience for using it on semantic expressing and reasoning. In this paper, a new method to support exclusive properties is presented, which extends OWL by adding a new construct. The formal definitions of the grammar and semantic for the proposed construct are given based on description logics. In addition, a corresponding semantic parser is implemented by defining a rule set over Jena. Case study in pervasive computing shows that the construct works well.
