Abstract :
T-/pi- unstiffened Vierendeel connections in SHS sections loaded by axial and shear forces have been studied by nonlinear finite element method and uniform design approach. The influence of cross-sectional dimensions of members, the segmental length and the height of a Vierendeel truss were considered. Analysis shows that the cross-sectional dimensions of members exert a significant influence on the ultimate strength. However, the effect of segmental length and the height on T-/pi- joint of a Vierendeel truss in SHS sections may not be neglected absolutely when accurate ultimate load-carrying capacity is required.
