Abstract
The mechanism of medium access control (MAC) layer in IEEE 802.16 system is becoming a hot spot because of its much more complication compared with many other wireless protocols. In this paper we propose an efficient uplink scheduling algorithm called unsolicited grant piggyback request (UGPR) to solve the problem of the current real-time polling service (rtPS) scheme for the quality of service (QoS) guarantee of MPEG video transmission due to its burstiness and variable bit rate. By using typical test video traces in a simple “BS to one SS” system, the proposed algorithm shows better performance in the aspects of video frame delay and jitter with similar channel utilization as the existing scheme.
