Abstract :
Due to the inherent properties of video communication, implementation of streaming video over wireless cellular networks is a challenging task. In order to obtain the best results, it might be necessary to perform optimization using the information available across many layers. In this paper, a cross-layer approach is proposed. The bit-rate of the video stream is adapted using scalable video coding at the application layer based on channel state estimates obtained from lower layers. Simulation results evaluate the algorithm and demonstrate better performance.
