Abstract
Transient method is a proven method for determination of earth fault´s direction in isolated or Petersen-coil compensated power systems. This article describes physical background of transient method and its application for detection of earth faulted line in resonant grounded power system. Transient method detects earth fault direction in the first few cycles of residual voltage and current time signals.
