Abstract
This study examined the process and characteristics of career development among elite Chinese coaches and constructed a grounded theory on the factors that contributing to the development of a successful career in the Chinese context. In the current study, there was a series of semi-structured interviews conducted with seventeen elite Chinese coaches of a variety of sports. The data analysis was conducted by several coding procedures geared toward theory development with assistance of Nvivo. Finally, nine categories and a paradigm model was emerged from the data. The findings will provide a holistic framework for a better understanding of coach development process and valuable information for coach career development in Chinese societies.
