Abstract :
Based on multi-temporal remote sensing images of Jinjiang City in China acquired in 1988 and 2001, we identified the characteristics and the classification systems of its ecological environment. By interpreting the thematic map of ecological environment in this area and analyzing the existing land use situation, two maps were obtained for these two different periods of time. A spatio-temporal analysis model was established to analyze the ecological environment quantity, characteristics of their distribution and the rule of their dynamic changes. The results indicate that the ecological environment of residence for urban and rural areas has increased greatly, while the area of platform dry land decreases sharply. The significant changing city can be divided into three regions: the northeastern developing region, the southwestern developing region and the central establishing region. With the adoption of Markov process mode, the result shows that ecological environment of Jinjiang is in a continuous changing status. Dry land and paddy field reduce gradually, while artificial buildings especially urban residential area increases by degrees. The change will probably continue for a long time before it reaches a relatively stable state eventually. This also suggests that Jinjiang will form its own new ecological environment pattern with integration of urban and rural economy in future.
