Abstract
This study examines a proposed melody design method based on human cognitive characteristics. As a human cognitive feature, we examine interactive processing of rhythmic and pitch accents. We adopt Pitch/Time Entrainment and construct an emergent melody composition model in which mutually coupled van der Pol oscillators define note onset and contour pivot timings. To verify the melodies generated by our model, we conduct impression ratings using Semantic Differential Technique. Results show that the proposed model realizes well organized and slightly bright melodies.
