Abstract :
Remote Alarm Module (RAM) is an external alarm module that informs crew of abnormal conditions occurred in Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) and commands to store accumulated data into a capsule or storage in an emergency situation. Major maritime electronics companies produce their own VDR, including the RAM. Unlike the RAMs, newly developed Hyundai intelligent Remote Alarm Module (HiRAM) supports not only basic alarm functions but also playback functions and eliminates system redundancy by fusing RAM and playback equipment. In this paper, we present background technologies and the framework for the Remote Alarm Module to perform playback functions, and briefly describe HiRAM as implementation of the framework.
