Abstract :
We present an optical scheme for frequency up-conversion at the micro-wave and millimeter-wave bands based on semiconductor optical amplifier. The proposed scheme modulates the bias current with an intermediate frequency (IF) in order to achieve intensity modulation of the incoming optical signal modulated with a local oscillator (LO) frequency. After photo-detection products in the form IF+LO are obtained. An error vector magnitude lower than -29 dB, BER<10-6 for 64-QAM, and a spurious-free dynamic range better than 61 dBmiddotHz2/3 are measured for an optical input power of -6 dBm.
