Abstract :
Gamma characteristic of Cathode Ray Tube is explained. New Liquid Crystal Displays and Plasma Displays have different gamma characteristic and that has impact on achieving overall linear or near linear transfer characteristic. Gamma correction in cameras has it´s traditional role but new meanings are receantly introduced. This new types of gamma correction are monitored and compared using different video sequences and Test charts. This should be usefull to technical stuff who have to take care about linearity of the television production chain and to drama and film producers who wish to achieve specific look of their work.
