Abstract :
This presentation will described how a risk and criticality approach is used to determine short, medium and long term replacement requirements consistent with sustainable business practice for the National Grid high voltage electricity network in the UK. The session will cover: • Development of Asset Health Indices which describe asset health (e.g. condition, performance) • Development of Criticality scores to understand the impact of asset failure and unreliability (e.g. safety risk, loss of supply risk, environmental risk) • How these indices are combined to prioritise asset replacement candidates • How technical asset lives are used to inform asset replacement planning volumes and how the asset replacement candidates and asset replacement volume interact • How the asset replacement candidates are bundled into economic work packages to create replacement schemes taking into account the practical aspects of delivering these schemes (e.g. access to the network, alignment with other schemes) • How the technical and practical aspects are brought together to inform prioritisation of schemes
